A much belated おめでと！Congratulations! I can’t believe what I was reading about your experiences in the US. Perhaps you ran into the wrong kind of people, you know, the ones with no intelligence. I am blessed to have been born and raised in Spain and was able to see things from their point of view, with an open mind.

I still check in, roughly proportionally to how often the blog is updated. I found your blog when Motoki was a baby, from some babycenter AP discussions.. and have peeked in ever since.

Hello, It is good to see that you are well. I was quite worried about your health and safety. I have been checking about once every other month or so to see if there were any new posts. I don’t remember when or how I found your blog about Motiki. I believe it was a link on a site I was at, but I went back to the begining and read up everyday until I caught up. I cried a lot, I do that about good and bad things. You both are very strong and brave to be able to go through what you have, I am glad to hear that you have celebrated your tenth? anniversary. I hope that you are together for a very long time. I think that with the way you have been caring for Motiki, he will continue to improve beyond what the doctors ever thought he would. Take care.

It seems like they will let you haggle things down if you`re getting a lot of things. We aren`t. The only option we`re buying at this point is the paint coating (which is virtually required, it seems), window tint, and a mat for the cargo spot. Not quite enough to get them to do anything but reduce the price of installation for the third-party navi.
Plus the Prius isn`t having any trouble selling so there is much less incentive to offer stuff.

Yeah. Never get any dealer options for a new car unless you can haggle it down. That’s how we got the snow tires/rims for the Harrier before; usually they were charging some ridiculous amount of money for them.

The parking space certificate is a national thing – no matter where you live you have to file one. Even if you live out in the middle of nowhere, you have to provide proof that you have a location to put the car and that you won`t be parking it illegally at the side of the road.

That’s quite long to get a car. you must not be in a hurry, or buy a used one (but it’s not common for cars in japan I think, right?).

In your town (I forgot the name), do you have to prove you own a place to park your car ?
I read people living in Tokyo and big cities must have a police certificate to be allowed to buy a car.

Hm! I ordered my first car (a Saturn) but bought the second one off the lot just like a bottle of milk. I can’t remember how long it took to get my first car, but most likely it was in the range of a week or two.

I don’t know how many people (%) order their cars in the USA. I assume it’s always something you can do if you don’t see exactly what you want on the lot.

But yeah, 8 months is a long time. Though my friend from India had to wait something like 3 or 5 years for her first car, and longer for a phone hookup (those were the good old days!).

He did make it home last night. On the last shinkansen of the night, but better than nothing.
At least I know he won`t be sent out of the country, but it`s still a pain. It seems that they want the whole team to stay in Tokyo for the length of the project – and while we`re negotiating… at this point things aren`t looking good. I have a feeling there will be a repeat of last year. Argh.
